Meadow mini-quilt - Moon daisies

The heatwave is continuing here, so today, we're stepping back into the cool of the Meadow mini-quilt project, to sew our ox eye daisies or moon daisies - you can find the pattern here.

The background, on to which they'll be appliquéd is the improv block made in the previous post. Alternatively, if you have an unused orphan block, you could also put it to use here, as an appliqué background.

There's just a couple of things we need to do, to prep the background. Firstly press, to make sure the seams lay flat and open.

Next fuse stabiliser or lightweight interfacing to the background panel.

You're now ready for the fusible appliqué part 🤗

If using the kit (free for orders of £50 and over).

Peel the paper backing from the pre-cut daisies, and foliage.

Or download the template, and follow the fusible appliqué tutorial here to prepare the pieces.

Place the white daisy petals and foliage, fusible side down on the background. Press to fuse the appliqué to the background, using a piece of greaseproof or baking parchment to protect the iron.

Repeat for the yellow daisy centres.

If you have an open toe foot, fit it to your machine now. You're already to stitch.

Using a small machine stitch sew around the edge of each daisy. Then sew the yellow centres in place. Finally stitch the foliage.

To make the moon daisy stems, yarn is sewn in place using a couching stitch. The same technique as used in our earlier Cuckoo Flower meadow mini-quilt, here.

Some finer grasses were sketched using water erasable pen, ready to be sewn when the block is quilted, but for the time being, these moon daisies are complete. It's time for a cool refreshing drink.

I hope you have a happy, contented midsummer 🐝

From our little hive to yours Xx
